Koto Song
(1999) For Electronic Tape, 4’54”
Koto Song was composed in CSound using FOF synthesis and a Karplus-Strong algorithm. The synthesis techniques are used to create a wide palette of plucked string timbres that are organized in a musical dialog that rises and falls continuously. As the melody is played the plucked string sounds rapidly move through reverberant spaces as if in a virtual space that is continuously changing shape. The exotic quality of Koto Song can be attributed to the use of a pure tuning system for pitch organization.
